What are thematic families?
Arabic is built on three-letter roots — each root carries a core meaning shared by every word
derived from it. A thematic family groups roots that belong to the
same semantic field: roots related to water, rain, and rivers form the Water & Nature family;
roots related to buying, selling, and debt form Trade & Transactions.
The 39 families here are derived from classical Quranic lexicography, particularly the categorizations
of al-Raghib al-Isfahani (Mufradat al-Quran) and modern
semantic field analysis of the Quranic vocabulary.
Each card shows how many Arabic roots belong to that family, how many Quran verses contain those roots,
and how many hadiths across 18 books share them. This lets you explore the Quran and Hadith corpus
by concept rather than by book or chapter.
